Mrs. Barb DeVries
I earned a BA in Elementary Education with a Language Arts Group Major from Calvin College.
I received a Master of Classroom Teaching degree from Michigan State University.
I wrote curriculum for the Board of Publications – CRC/RCA.
Grand Haven Christian since 1991
I am married to a former GHCS Principal, now a Pastor at Covenant Life Church. I have four children: a married son who is the Chief of Staff of our State Senator, a daughter who is an “M” in Western Asia teaching English and sharing her faith in a closed Muslim Country, a daughter who is a School Social Worker in Kent City, and another married daughter who is a Transitional Case Worker at Bethany Christian Services. I have three beautiful granddaughters and one amazing grandson.
I am a child of the King! I live to serve my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ who has redeemed my life and sealed my future for eternity with Him.
Integration of Faith in the Classroom:
It is my great joy to be able to celebrate God’s creativity, His provisions and faithfulness, His Story and our place in it each day as we gather in Young Explorers. We learn what a miracle is when we watch the monarch caterpillar eat and grow and shed his skin and be shaped into a beautiful chrysalis where God forms intricate wings that carry it to the treetops and beyond. We release it 2 weeks later…after everybody gets a butterfly kiss, of course! At Christmas we wonder together at God’s great love for us in giving us Jesus as a baby to teach us about Him and His kingdom! Each week as we learn about a new ZooPhonics animal we also learn something new about our Creator. We think God for giving us earthy bodies and bright minds and tender hearts to know His love for us! Not being able to acknowledge and worship God as Lord of all would be an incomplete education for our children!
I have hiked the land where Jesus lived, visited my daughter in Azerbaijan, Italy and Honduras, took a hot air balloon ride over Napa Valley, zip-lined over giant waterfalls in Hawaii, but I am still waiting to be a part of a flash mob at Christmas!
