Mrs. Dawn Rotman

Education Background:

I earned a BA in Elementary Education with a major in English from Grand Valley State University.

I also have a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from GVSU.

I am committed to the task of being a life-long learner, and I am amazed by the many things that I learn from my students every day!

Teaching Experience:

I began teaching at Muskegon Christian School for 11 years.

I am in my 11th year at Grand Haven Christian.

Personal Biography:

When I am not here with "my kids" at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband and my own three children.  We love to hike through the woods, play in the sand, go biking, go kayaking, and play family games.  My favorite verse is Philippians 4:13 - I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.

Integration of Faith in the Classroom:

I believe that it is essential for children to live as God commands and to recognize that God does command us to live in certain ways. Therefore, scripture is an essential part of our learning every day (2 Timothy 3:16-17). For example, our classroom rules and behavior plan are based upon scripture.

Another example of living scripture daily is seen in our “Faith Focus.” My students memorize a scripture passage each week which relates to a Christian character trait that we are trying to build. We say this verse multiple times each day to establish scripture memorization as a lifestyle, not an assignment

(Deuteronomy 11:18). Through our daily devotions and discussions, we learn about each trait and work to “put it into action” throughout the week.

Throughout the year, I teach my students how to “look through their Christian Glasses.” This refers to the idea of looking at everything (math, science, reading, etc.) through a Christian lens. Students are taught that knowing God, His truths, His plan, etc. affects the way we look at everything! Each unit that I teach revolves around a big idea which we call our “Christian Glasses point.” This helps us focus on the differences between our learning here at GHCS and the learning that takes place in public schools.

Fun Fact:

We also enjoy the adventure of trying new and unusual fruits and vegetables!  We add to our life list whenever we can!
